What does "No clipping" mean? Clipping happens when panels produce more power than the inverter can handle — the excess is wasted. Standard packages (1× Powerwall 3) are designed with a small amount of acceptable clipping on the brightest days. No-clipping packages (2× Powerwall 3 + Gateway 3) size the inverter to match the full panel output so nothing is lost. Learn more about solar clipping →

Pricing disclaimer: All prices shown are estimates based on standard residential installations in Fresno County and Madera County. Final pricing is determined after a site assessment. Permit fees, panel upgrade costs, and any non-standard installation requirements are not included in package estimates. Production estimates are based on Fresno Valley conditions and south-facing roof orientation — actual production varies. No federal, state, or utility incentives are reflected in these prices.

Why Tesla Powerwall 3 costs less than Enphase

Both are excellent battery systems. The price difference comes down to how each system is engineered — not quality.

Tesla Powerwall 3

Lower cost
  • Built-in solar inverterThe Powerwall 3 includes a solar inverter inside the battery unit. One device handles both solar and battery — fewer parts, less wiring, less installation time.
  • Single gatewayOne Gateway 3 unit manages the whole system. No separate inverter to mount, wire, and commission.
  • Simpler installationFewer components means fewer connection points, less conduit, and a faster install — which reduces labor cost.
  • String inverter architectureWorks well on roofs with good sun exposure and minimal shading. Most Fresno Valley homes qualify.

Enphase IQ Battery 10C

Higher cost
  • Microinverter architectureEach panel has its own microinverter. More components per panel — more parts, more wiring, more installation time. Excellent for shaded or complex roofs.
  • Separate battery systemThe IQ Battery 10C is a standalone unit that connects to the Enphase microinverter system. Separate commissioning and wiring required.
  • IQ collar requiredAC-coupled installs require an IQ collar ($500) to connect the battery to the system — an additional component not needed with Tesla.
  • Best for shading & complex roofsIf your roof has multiple orientations, dormers, or heavy shading, Enphase microinverters outperform a string inverter — and the higher cost may be worth it.

Bottom line: Tesla costs less because the Powerwall 3 combines the solar inverter and battery into one unit — fewer parts, simpler wiring, faster install. Enphase costs more because microinverters add a component to every panel. Both systems are reliable and well-supported. For most Fresno Valley homes with good sun exposure, Tesla is the better value. For shaded or complex roofs, Enphase microinverters may produce more energy and justify the higher price.

What affects your final price

Package prices are starting-point estimates. Your actual quote may be higher or lower depending on:

  • Roof type — composition shingle, tile, and metal have different racking requirements
  • Panel placement — multiple roof faces or ground-mount adds conduit runs
  • Electrical panel condition — older panels may need a service upgrade before solar can be added
  • Trenching — ground-mount systems or detached structures require underground conduit
  • Permit fees — vary by city and county jurisdiction ($200–$600 typical)
  • Shading — heavy shading may favor Enphase microinverters over a string inverter
