Why Homeowners Expand Their Solar Systems

Most solar systems are sized for the household's energy usage at the time of installation. For Fresno-area homeowners, life changes quickly — EVs, home additions, pool equipment, and rising PG&E rates all push usage beyond what the original system was designed to cover.

Added an Electric Vehicle

An EV can add 2,000–5,000 kWh per year to your home's energy consumption. If your solar system was sized before you got an EV, it's likely no longer covering your full usage.

Home Addition or ADU

Adding square footage, a garage conversion, or an ADU increases your electrical load. Your original system wasn't sized for the additional space.

HVAC or Appliance Upgrades

Upgrading to a heat pump, adding a pool, or replacing gas appliances with electric alternatives all increase your electricity demand.

True-Up Bill Is Too High

If your annual true-up bill has grown significantly, your system may be undersized for your current usage. Adding panels is often the most direct solution.

Adding Battery Storage

Combining a system expansion with battery integration gives you both more production and outage protection in a single project.

Original System Was Undersized

Some systems were undersized at installation due to budget constraints or conservative estimates. If your bill was never fully offset, expansion may be the answer.

How a Solar Addition Works

01

System & Usage Assessment

We review your existing system's production data, your current utility bills, and your new energy loads to determine how much additional capacity makes sense.

02

Inverter Capacity Check

Your existing inverter may have headroom for additional panels — or it may need to be upgraded or supplemented. We evaluate this before designing the addition.

03

Roof Space & Structural Review

We identify available roof sections, assess orientation and shading, and confirm structural capacity for additional panels.

04

Permit & Interconnection

We manage all permits and any required amendments to your utility interconnection agreement.

05

Installation & Verification

Panels are installed, the system is tested, and we verify production is meeting the expected output before we leave.

What We Can Add

Additional Panels

Expand capacity on existing or new roof sections

Battery Storage

Tesla Powerwall or Enphase IQ Battery retrofit

Inverter Upgrade

Upgrade to support expanded system capacity

EV Charger Integration

Coordinate solar expansion with Level 2 charger install

Monitoring Upgrade

Modern monitoring for the full expanded system

We assess your specific system before recommending any expansion. Not every system can be expanded — we'll tell you honestly what's possible and what makes financial sense.

True-Up Bill Too High?

Your System May Be Undersized for Your Current Usage

PG&E rates have increased significantly. A system that offset your bill in 2016 may not cover your 2026 usage — especially with an EV or new HVAC. We assess your production data and current load to identify the gap.
