NEM 2.0 vs NEM 3.0 — What It Means for Your Proposal
NEM 2.0
Systems interconnected before April 15, 2023 are grandfathered on NEM 2.0 for 20 years. If you have an existing system, your export rate is protected.
NEM 3.0
New systems interconnected after April 15, 2023 are on NEM 3.0. Export rates are lower, which means battery storage has a stronger financial case.
Battery Storage Under NEM 3.0
With NEM 3.0, storing solar energy and using it during peak evening hours (4–9 PM) is more valuable than exporting it. A properly sized battery can significantly improve your system's economics.
